Alan J. Wein, MD, PhD(hon.), FACS is Professor with Tenure and Emeritus Chief of Urology and Director of the Residency Program in Urology at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He is a graduate of Princeton University and received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed training in Surgery and Urology at the University of Pennsylvania including a fellowship at the Harrison Department of Surgical Research. He has been certified and recertified (voluntary) by the American Board of Urology. He is the recipient of numerous awards, spanning over 50 years in Urology. He has chaired the Residency Review Committee in Urology and served as Vice President of the American Board of Urology. He is the author and co-author of over 1,000 papers and book chapters and is the co-editor-in-chief of the 9th, 10th, and 11th editions of Campbell-Walsh Urology and the name of the 12th, and succeeding editions, has been changed to Campbell-Walsh-Wein Urology to reflect his contributions to the field. His clinical and research interests include the lower urinary tract, urinary incontinence, and lower urinary tract dysfunction, prostate enlargement, and evaluation/management of prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer.
