Face and Scalp AK: Why Should You Consider Daylight PDT with Our Expert Panel
On 14th June 2019, the 24th World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) in Milan, Italy, played host to Galderma’s satellite symposium, Face and scalp AK: why should you consider daylight PDT?
The symposium panel, was chaired by Prof Rolf-Markus Szeimies and supported by Prof Thomas Dirschka and Prof Piergiacomo Calzavara-Pinton, who together explored the treatment of face and scalp actinic keratosis (AK) and the reasons why daylight photodynamic therapy (DL-PDT) should be considered.
The experts covered the reasons why we should treat AK, the latest data surrounding DL-PDT as a preferred treatment option by patients, as well as the current recommendations for the treatment of AK.
Prof Thomas Dirschka* at WCD 2019: Why should we treat AK?
Prof Thomas Dirschka focuses on AK and the importance of treating it, discussing the concept of field cancerization, new molecular findings on AK and the risk of progression of AK to squamous cell carcinoma.
Prof Rolf-Markus Szeimies discusses the latest clinical and patient preference data on DL-PDT, identifying why DL-PDT is the preferred treatment choice by patients.
Prof Piergiacomo Calzavara-Pinton completes the symposium with his review of the current treatment landscape for AK and discusses the latest DL-PDT treatment recommendations by looking at guidelines, and comparing the cost effectiveness, treatment duration, total thickness score (TTS) and side effects of DL-PDT to available topical treatment options.
